Poverty
Poverty is at the pinnacle of the United Nations’ concerns as shown by the hierarchy of goals in its Millennium Declaration. “The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest.” [UN MDG Site] The first goal aims to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. PURSUE, Inc. intends to contribute to this goal by formulating/implementing plans/projects/programs/researches resulting in best practices of integrated local level poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability. Specifically, Goal 1 has the following targets:
Goal 1 - Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger [See particulars at UNDP site]
-
Reduce by half the proportion of people living on less than a dollar a day
-
Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people
- Reduce by half the proportion of people who suffer from hunger
